Recently, Hong Kong’s first semiconductor equipment manufacturing base project was launched in Yuen Long.

According to the public "Bay Media" report, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (Science and Technology Parks Corporation) and East Microelectronics Hong Kong Limited (East Microelectronics) held the "Yuen Long Innovation Park Semiconductor Equipment Production Base Project Launch Ceremony" at Yuen Long Innovation Park on March 16 ".

According to the report, East Microelectronics will set up Hong Kong's first production base for R & D and production of innovative semiconductor and integrated circuit front-end equipment in Yuen Long Innovation Park, marking the development of Hong Kong's microelectronics industry from R & D to pilot test, and further moving towards high-end manufacturing. Hong Kong's promotion of new industrialization adds another important milestone.

It is reported that East Microelectronics plans to invest 0.8 billion yuan (Hong Kong dollars, the same below) to set up a new semiconductor equipment production base in the Yuen Long Innovation Park Microelectronics Center Expansion Plan (MECX) to establish a production line for semiconductor equipment production and pilot verification. The front-end semiconductor equipment produced in the first phase includes furnace tubes, etching and chemical vapor deposition equipment.

In recent years, Hong Kong has accelerated the development of new-quality productivity, and specially launched the "New Industry Acceleration Plan" with support funds of up to 10 billion yuan to encourage enterprises to set up new intelligent production facilities in Hong Kong. It is reported that the East Microelectronics project has been supported by the plan and can receive up to 0.2 billion yuan in funding.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has been strongly supporting the development of the semiconductor and microelectronics industry, actively building a local microelectronics ecosystem, and established the Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute in September 2024.

As the country marches on the new journey of the "15th Five-Year Plan" and clearly supports Hong Kong's construction of an international innovation and technology center, Hong Kong is ushering in an important opportunity to develop the microelectronics industry. The latest "Budget" also announced that about 0.22 billion yuan will be reserved to support Hong Kong. Build the first overseas national manufacturing innovation center, focus on semiconductor-related research and development, further improve Hong Kong's microelectronics ecosystem, and help the country's original innovation and technological research in the semiconductor field.

Data show that Henan East Microelectronics, founded in 2018, is the first enterprise in Henan Province to produce semiconductor chip core materials, which is composed of semiconductor core materials, semiconductor equipment, and core components. It is committed to becoming a one-stop service platform for materials and equipment parts for high-end integrated circuit manufacturing, so as to solve the "stuck neck" problem for Chinese semiconductors.
